After selling over 20 million copies on Steam, Meccha Chameleon comes

Meccha Chameleon, the indie hide-and-seek game that launched on Steam a couple of months ago, is already one of the year's biggest hits, taking the PC market by storm. Now, as revealed in today's Nintendo Direct, the indie smash hit is coming to Nintnedo Switch 2 - and it arrives today.

"Meccha Chameleon is a competitive hide-and-seek game featuring a unique drawing mechanic," says a press release. "The hiding team blends into their surroundings by painting their bodies with nearby colors and patterns, while carefully posing to mimic walls, furniture, or decor. Meanwhile, the “It” team searches for suspicious spots to expose the hiders. If the “It” team finds everyone before time runs out, they win! But if even one hider survives, the hiding team claims victory. Whether you get spotted despite flawless camouflage or surprisingly escape notice with a bold trick, every match is full of laughs. Your creative inspiration decides the outcome!"

Hopefully on the Switch 2 version, we aren't going to see any of those user-made maps that were found to contain malware. The issue was resolved fairly quickly, but marred what has otherwise been a fairly positive run for the unlikely viral hit.

Meccha Chameleon topped a staggering 15 million sales in less than a month, and I imagine coming to Nintendo Switch is just going to keep the game's remarkable momentum going. Meccha Chameleon is the latest in a string of delightful social co-op games, following in the footsteps of the likes of REPO, Lethal Company, and Among Us. Like those games before it, Meccha Chameleon is being sold for a relatively low price compared to many of the triple-A offerings. It's currently available for £5.29 on Steam - but I will let you know how much it'll cost on Nintendo Switch 2. I doubt it will be lots more.

Meccha Chameleon's simple hook has made it a hit with streamers and fans of social co-op games. The game plays as an elaborate prop hunt where players paint themselves to blend into the environment. Rather than simply hiding among the clutter, the ability to paint your character introduces an element of creativity that's part of what made it so popular.
