During today's Nintendo Indie World Showcase, which featured just over 15 minutes of indie games coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, a familiar game made a surprise appearance.
City of None, first revealed earlier this year during The MIX at BitSummit 2026, comes from Noel & Liam Berry, the co-creators of Celeste. An all-new Indie World trailer reveals that City of None will also be coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 alongside its 2027 Steam release. The game will be published by Extremely OK Games, Ltd.
"We made many games together when we were kids," said the Berry brothers. "Creating a full-blown adventure game was always our dream, but was out of reach."
They explained that after developing Celeste alongside Maddy Thorson and friends, they finally had the opportunity to create the game they've always wanted to make.
City of None Looks Like the Spiritual Successor to Celeste
While Noel & Liam Berry describe City of None as an adventure game, there are teases of platforming, combat, and exploration all within a stylish world, with aesthetics similar to what you'd expect from a Game Boy Color game. Here is the game's official description:
A metropolis crumbles into ruin as powerful Barons feast on souls lost in time. You are but one spirit, with a wooden body left to rot in the wild. Will you seize back your city’s future?
The game's official Steam page takes things a step further, promising players plenty of unique items and power-ups to discover, five city sectors and many pathways to explore (each with its own distinct play style, too), and plenty of friendly, as well as some not-so-friendly, inhabitants to meet.
One of Celeste's trademark gameplay elements was its challenging platforming, and that looks to remain intact here in City of None. The game's combat, however, feels like it's been expanded, with fast, intuitive, and environmentally friendly combat.
Celeste is Still One of the Best Reviewed Games of All Time
It's remarkable how well Celeste has held up over the years. On Open Critic, the game still boasts a 92 Top Critic Average with 99% of critics recommending the game. Equally as impressive is its 90 Player Rating, proving that critics and fans are aligned on the game, something that isn't exactly common in the industry these days.
Our review from 2018 agrees, praising how rewarding and fulfilling the game truly is. "Gameplay is fluid, tight, and satisfying, and the level design remains fair no matter how wacky the situations get throughout the whole game."
If City of None can follow up on Celeste's success, then we'll be in for a real treat.
