You're equipped with a tool that can suck up materials that you can then use to build things. However, simply sucking things up is helpful as you may clear debris out of the way or clean up city streets. Once you have materials, you can refine them into more potent resources and there are key items to acquire, too, that let you complete specific objectives. Overall, it's a pressure-free experience and slowly watching the islands come together as you make folks happy, enhance your tool, and explore via both plane and foot, you'll make plenty of lovely memories.

I absolutely love flying that little plane and meeting the wonderful cast of characters who really bring the game world to life. 🛩️With a lot of enjoyable tasks to accomplish and a gorgeous world to explore as you do, Lou's Lagoon is spot-on for a relaxing good time. Lou's Lagoon gameplay video → Akatori Review PlayStation 5 ★★★★☆If 2D adventures are more your speed then here's Akatori which will have you exploring and fighting in an intricate and challenging world.Akatori has you play as a monk named Mako who's joined by a bird that transforms into a staff.

Key details

The martial arts theme and blend of 2D sprites with 3D environments reminded me of playing as Fei Fong Wong in Xenogears which is awesome! Being a more action-oriented game, Akatori makes bashing enemies with your fists or staff a treat and the platforming challenges are superb at diversifying the challenge. Traversing many perilous environments as you slowly unravel the game world is so much fun and there's a rewarding system, too, where you amass energy as long as you don't rest or bite the dust and you can use this energy to ring bells that let you complete challenges to unlock new skills.

With such satisfying gameplay and clever systems, you're left with one action-packed indie adventure that you'll have a blast with. ⛩️I thoroughly enjoyed Akatori's approach to combat, platforming, and exploration and its upgrade system is incredibly unique and rewarding. Akatori gameplay video → Funguys Swarm Review PlayStation 5 ★★★★☆You know how much I love a good ol' Survivors-like and I'm happy to say that I have a brand new favourite one; here's Funguys Swarm!For starters, Funguys Swarm is the cutest Survivors-like that I've ever played and for that alone, I became obsessed with it.

But, there's much more to it because the variety of weapons, characters, stages, upgrades, enemies, and bosses is top-notch. You play as a mushroom chum of your choosing with whatever primary weapon you want then take on hordes of vegetable-themed nogoodniks within striking stages that are gorgeously designed with plenty of colour and detail. Each character and weapon is so unique and when you throw in the loads of secondary weapons and mutations, you're left with so many possible character builds that experimentation is constantly rewarding. Back at the hub area, you can spend lots of different currencies on permanent upgrades and unlockables and maybe even get some cuties to tag along with you on your next run!

There's just so much to it and the amount of variety and visual treats make every second of gameplay an absolute joy. 🍄I'm very happy that Survivors-likes keep getting better and better and Funguys Swarm is my favourite one so far in all its adorable cuteness. That story immediately takes a back seat once the gameplay starts because it's essentially about you controlling a bee as you blast at all sorts of insect adversaries.
