Beyblade fans can officially look forward to what might be the greatest video game experience they could have ever hoped to see.
The wait is almost over for Releaseplay Studio's SteelBlade Shop Simulator. The upcoming indie game allows players to dive headfirst into the world of SteelBlades, a spinning top combat game that is exactly what Beyblade fans have come to expect from the genre.
SteelBlade Shop Simulator Brings Beyblade-Style Battles to Steam
Per the official game description from developer and publisher Releaseplay Studio, "SteelBlade Shop Simulator is a game that combines shop management and arena combat, set in the vibrant and colorful streets of Japan. Build your own SteelBlade shop, open SteelBlade boxes, manually combine parts to create powerful SteelBlades, and choose your own path: sell your SteelBlades to customers for profit or take them into the arena and fight."
Players will have to purchase storage and inventory for their SteelBlade shops, which they can design and customize in almost any way they see fit. Players will then have the opportunity to sell and open SteelBlade boxes, which contain various components across one of four rarity tiers. SteelBlade Shop Simulator lets players mix and match these components to craft their own SteelBlades, which can then be sold or sent into the arena for pulse-pounding combat.
As noted by Releaseplay Studio, "SteelBlade Shop Simulator brings management, strategy, and action together across single-player, co-op, and PvP battles. Build your shop. Create your SteelBlades. Dominate the arena."
Although it isn't an official Beyblade title, SteelBlade Shop Simulator is easily the most immersive video game experience that Beyblade fans have ever seen. The Beyblade franchise has been around since 1999, when Takara released the original Spin Dragoon, or Ultimate Dragoon, toy line. Inspired by classic Japanese beigoma spinning tops, Beyblade lets collectors customize their own metal spinning tops, or Beys, which they can then pit against others in Beyblade battles.
Since the toy line's initial launch, the Beyblade brand has become a global phenomenon, with over a dozen different Beyblade models and system lines making their way into stores. Beyond the toys themselves, Beyblade's overwhelming popularity has been bolstered by the myriad comic books, video games, animated series, and anime feature films produced aspart of the franchise.
Madhouse produced the original Beyblade anime, which ran for 51 episodes in a single season in 2001. While the series was far from a critical darling, it still managed to cement its place in the hearts of young audiences and dedicated Beyblade fans alike.
The latest Beyblade series, Beyblade X, began with the manga of the same name in 2023, which debuted in the pages of CoroCoro Comic magazine just months ahead of the anime by studio OLM Team Masuda. Beyblade X revolves around Robin Kazami, an amateur Blader who is abandoned by his teammates after a brutal defeat, only to find a pair of unlikely new partners in the form of former Beyblade champion Jaxon Cross and the incredibly popular influencer Multi Nana-iro.
